New Computer for Community RadioThis is a featured page

Long-time friend and “sister” Amber donated a Macintosh Powerbook laptop computer to the community radio project.

“It’s not being used here,” says Amber. “It could be put to a lot better use out there.”

The community radio station, RMA, also functions as a community center where various educational community activities take place. (To read more about this project, click here.) The computer will be an addition to the radio’s two existing laptops, one of which is used for mixing and broadcast inside the studio, the other of which is used for both administrative and community teaching purposes. The addition of a second laptop will allow RMA to expand its info-tech services to the village population.

We use our laptops to teach basic computer skills, from creating documents, to typing, to simply manipulating a mouse and understanding a computer’s organization.

The radio/community center also provides typing, printing, and now scanning services to the village. We provide these services at the same cost as in the nearest town (about 25 kilometers away), which adds to the advantages of having these services available at such close proximities.

Thank you Amber, for thinking of our community’s well-being!
