Tonga Soa! (Welcome) overhead view of "harana", limestone massifs of region

Thank you for visiting! I hope you enjoy seeing, reading, and hearing a bit about the grassroots development work that I do as a Peace Corps Volunteer in a village in the north of Madagascar. For over two years, this village has been my home, the community that it houses have been my family and friends, its daily concerns have become my own. I hope that you feel as welcome at this site as I do in the place and among the people n whose name I have created it.

What’s Here

a local friend and two of her beautiful kids, in my yard for a party
You can find general information about the village, the unique Ankaraña region, and the equally unique Antakaraña people of the region. Also you’ll find loads of information on past, ongoing, and upcoming projects that have been created as a result of my collaborative work with the community – as well as how you can support these project efforts. There is information about Peace Corps, what it does as an organization in Madagascar and around the globe, plus a little bit about me and how I ended up here – maybe it will inspire you. There are also some maps, some drawings, lots of photos, and various recordings, plus links to other sites relevant to all of that stuff. Even some vacation suggestions!

Bear With Me!

This site is a new endeavor and will probably grow and change very slowly, since my access to the internet is quite limited. When I do get to a computer every now and then, I’ll be working to make this site as user-friendly as possible – so please do send me your feedback!

A special thanks to Max for motivating me to finally try my hand at a website. May everyone who gives it a look take something positive away from her or his visit.

please visit www.radioactive.org.uk for more information on Max's organization. RadioActive is dedicated to helping rural communities to install and maintain community radio stations, providing equipment, installation, and specialized training.

click on projects and then on madagascar to read a summary of how RadioActive worked with our village.
